HELLO happy people! This weekend was one for the books.  The mix of sunshine, family and fun made for the most perfect couple of days.  Many times I wished that I had a pause button so I could soak up every bit.  I have been talking a lot about speeding through these next few weeks, but this weekend was such a good reminder that life is best when I enjoy every moment 🙂

The weather really started to shine in the Northwest this weekend, and Friday was no exception.  After I knocked out a quick gym session, Derek and I headed down to Chambers to hang out in the sun.  This has become one of our go-to places when it’s nice out because of the views, huge green lawns and proximity to our house.  We sun bathed for over an hour and chatted about future visits with a puppy in tow!

The clouds rolled in, so we packed up and headed home to make dinner.  I stretched the last of a kombucha by mixing it with ice and a little La Croix.  It made a pretty tasty mocktail!

We just relaxed the rest of the night at home and rested up for a big birthday weekend.

We woke up nice and early to head up to Whidbey! It was SUCH a nice day.  I just can’t get over the weather we are having around here lately, so if I mention it a thousand more times, I apologize.  There was absolutely no traffic. Usually we hit some sort of traffic as we head through Seattle, so this was a dream.  The traffic in Seattle has gotten insane.  Derek is starting to agree with me that Seattle back-ups can rival those in L.A.

After a beautiful ferry ride, we were on the island! Derek and I spent the first few hours of our visit helping my parents with some yard work.  They are clearing out some trees and brush in our backyard/forest area in order to tidy it up before the wedding and to let a little more light in.  My dad is cutting the trunks into rounds to use for wedding decorations as well! It was wonderful to spend the afternoon outside.  I actually love yard work 🙂

After that project, my mom, sister and I cleaned up and headed to the nail salon to get mani/pedi’s.  I know it’s surprising due to the great amount of nail polish pictures I have posted lately, but 99% of the time my nails are all natural.  But it sure is a treat to have them done, so we had some girl time in honor of my upcoming birthday.  We ended up being there for almost THREE hours because their were only two people for the three of us, and I guess they were just on island time.  It was a very relaxing few hours though! I went with a similar pinkish color on my nails and eggplant purple on my toes.  It think this pinkish/purple nail color is a top contender for the wedding.

Since our appointment took way longer than we expected we had to rush home to shower, clean and cook for a little dinner party my parents threw together in honor of my birthday! My parents and Derek surprised me with a little get together with some of my favorite people ever! My mom made a delicious dinner, my dad set up the badminton net and we spent the evening together, chatting and eating cake.  It was perfect.

I slept horribly on Saturday night, but was still up bright and early on Sunday.  My body just doesn’t let me sleep in. My parents and I went out to coffee while everyone else was still asleep and then we came home, made breakfast and opened my birthday gifts.  My parents generously gifted me a beautiful, shiny red grill for this summer! It is the perfect size for our apartment but has plenty of room for lots of food! After a quick and easy trip back to our place, Derek and I were eager to set it up. Or rather, Derek set it up and I gave helpful ( 😉 ) directions.

Then we had to go to the store to get some food for grillin’! And we picked up a pretty hanging flower basket to complete our patio atmosphere.

We were so impressed with the performance of this baby and had SO much fun hanging out together and cooking outside.  It felt so much like summer.

Now, we are back to the grind of daily life.  This week is full of lots of events, meetings and activities.  And Friday is puppy day, so you bet we are looking forward to that!

I hope your weekend was amazing and that this week is treating you well so far.  Check back in tomorrow for a fun birthday post!
